Installation d'Ubuntu sur un portable Packard Bell EasyNote BG46-P-018 (12") (1/2)

J'ai acheté un nouveau portable pour Noël (pas pour moi, pour Amélie en fait). Il s'agit d'un ultraportable. Le choix est restreint sur ce segment, sachant qu'on voulait un portable à la fois léger (2kg max) et puissant (processeur Intel Core 2 Duo T7100 minimum), et le tout sans mettre plus de 1300€.
On avait repéré depuis longtemps un Asus (qui est une très bonne marque faisant des portables à la fois beaux, bien assemblés, de bonne qualité et pas chers) et surtout le Samsung Q45 XEV 7250 à seulement 1070€ à l'époque sur les magasins de la rue Montgallet ou 1200€ à la Fnac.
Et puis j'ai vu l'édition limitée Packard Bell BG46-P-018, à 1000€ à la Fnac. Il était aussi puissant que les deux autres, à 200€ de moins, et à 300g de moins grâce à un graveur de DVD externe. Alors banco.
Je précise que je ne suis pas du tout fan de PB, j'ai même toujours pensé que c'était du mauvais matos. Il se trouve qu'il fera bien son office, et pour l'avoir utilisé depuis quelques jours, son seul problème est que le ventilo souffle ne s'arrête jamais vraiment (ce qui veut dire qu'il n'est pas super bien monté comme un Asus, ceci étant je n'ai jamais essayé d'autre 12 pouces).
Au final, ce qui fonctionne sous Ubuntu : presque tout (y compris l'écran en résolution 1280x800, le wifi, les magnifiques boutons pour activer le wifi et le mode éco, le graveur externe, le son, le lecteur de cartes mémoires SD, et compiz activé).
Ce qui ne fonctionne pas :
- la webcam est montée à l'envers et impossible de retourner l'image.
- la sortie VGA (pour brancher à un écran plus gros par exemple) a du mal à changer la résolution.
Une fois rentré, on installe donc Ubuntu. Bonne nouvelle, le disque n'est visiblement pas tatoué : après avoir gravé les deux DVD de sauvegarde de Windows Vista (qui a planté deux fois en 10 minutes, j'imagine qu'il ne m'aime pas :-) ), suppression totale de Windows (8Go de gagnés pour la partition de sauvegarde, 17Go déjà écrits (!!!) de gagnés sur la partition Windows). Une partition de 11Go pour accueuillir la racine en début de disque, une partition de 1Go pour la swap en fin de disque, et une partition de 136Go entre les deux pour /home.
Une fois les 50 minutes d'installation passées, c'est la traversée du désert pour faire fonctionner le matos. C'est un peu du matos exotique, mais pas tant que ça en fait : la webcam est reprise dans au moins 3 modèles d'Asus, et la carte vidéo pause des problème aussi dans des Asus et des Toshiba. Bref, c'est surtout les nouveaux ultraportables 12 pouces 16/9 qui semblent poser problème plus que Packard Bell simplement, mais j'imagine que tout sera réglé dans quelques mois.
